My name is Lynda Allison and I am a Nutritional Therapist, specialising in wellbeing in midlife. I am based in a beautiful part of the world, in the coastal town of Lymington, Hampshire with The New Forest on my doorstep.
"Wellbeing is very personal, it means something different to all of us"
The way you feel, both physically and mentally, is the very essence of life. For me it is all about feeling good, feeling happy but more importantly, feeling comfortable and confident in my own skin! It has taken me a long time to get here but I did, through will power, determination and hard work.
Ultimately, our food choices and the relationship we either abuse or nurture will be felt in the body, mind and emotions. If we fuel our bodies with nutritious foods and goodness, our bodies will thank us in return.
"You cannot care for yourself in the truest sense if you don’t understand what it is that you need"
What is it that comforts you and nourishes you. Self-care is about taking responsibility for yourself, for your happiness, your physical, emotional, psychological and social needs. Only you will know what self-care means to you, we are all different: our genetics, our experiences, our peer groups and our lifestyles.
"The subject of Nutrition and Wellbeing is wide and varied but the basics will always remain the same"
My basics are NESS – Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep and Stress. These are the things that I focus on every day, NESS is my foundation.
As we approach midlife, our bodies are changing and it is vital that we put time aside to take care of ourselves. We are often stressed, frazzled, unfulfilled and overwhelmed with life. How often do I hear “we just don’t have the time to take care of ourselves”, only when it’s too late. Be gentle with yourself and listen to what your changing body needs. Recognise the things in life that recharge you and do them as often as you can.
"There is a misconception in our modern times that putting ourselves first is an act of selfishness and that we should aim to be as selfless as possible!! Who on earth said that?"
Self-care and “Time For Me” allows us to be the best version of ourselves, which in turn allows us to properly care for those around us.
"Aromatherapy is my happy place"
As part of my own self-care routine, after NESS, aromatherapy is second on my list. Essential Oils are so beneficial, from boosting mood, improving our sleep, reducing anxiety and pain to reducing inflammation and increasing energy levels. The benefits of oils are numerous, leaving skin silky soft by locking in hydration, oils provide a strong skin barrier, great for dry and irritable skin. I use body oils for different intentions like sleep or stress, face oil for hydrating and anti-ageing and my favourite, nourishing hair oil. I need a lot of that!
"our ancestors have known the powerful effect that certain types of herbs and flowers can have on the human body and mind"
In 2020 when the world was turned upside down, the idea of creating my own aromatherapy products was born. I set to work with my friend Debbie Mulkern of New Forest Aromatics, who works with natural scents to create beautiful, sustainable, fragrant products that have positive effects on our wellbeing. After a year of blending and testing, we created a range of beautiful body oils that help with some of the things that bother us the most - sleep, stress, anxiety, fear, motivation, night sweats, and relaxation. My range of “Time For Me” oils were launched in 2022, along with a Nourishing Hair Oil, which was an after thought for my own uncontrollable hair! This is now our best seller.
In 2023, our “Time For Me” spa treatment came into being. This unique spa treatment was created and designed by The Menopause Boutique, along with Debbie Mulkern of New Forest Aromatics and Anne Murray Holistics, who is an experienced therapist and trainer.
"We launched our “Time For Me” spa treatment at Senspa, Carey’s Manor, Brockenhurst in October 2023 and we are very proud of our collaboration with them."
“Time For Me” is a spa treatment designed for those experiencing the physical, mental and emotional changes that affect us in midlife, this unique treatment delivers optimum care and results to this demographic who are often experiencing major life changes in both their personal and professional lives.
Choosing one of The Menopause Boutique’s four therapeutic massage oil blends you will feel a sense of nurture and timelessness from this gentle massage, rebalanced nervous and endocrine systems from pressure point techniques, and tension release from purposeful, long movements.
